Chai Old Fashioned

A spicy twist on a classic old fashioned! This version uses a Chai Masala simple syrup and is the perfect fall and winter cocktail.

Chai simple syrup:


1 c. water

1 tbsp. Chai Masala

1 c. sugar

Old Fashioned:


3 oz bourbon

3 tsp. chai simple syrup

4-5 dashes orange bitters


  1. In a small sauce pan, bring water and chai masala to a low boil. Reduce heat to low and allow to steep for 5 minutes.

  2. Strain through very fine mesh strainer or use several layers of cheesecloth and reserve the liquid.

  3. Add sugar to the reserved liquid and mix until completely dissolved.

  4. Refrigerate until completely cooled

  5. In a cocktail glass, stir together bourbon, chai simple syrup, and bitters.

  6. Add ice, and garnish with an orange slice or orange peel
